Channel Width Discipline on Volatile Sessions
Wide markets tempt oversized channels. Here is how we keep parallels honest when volatility expands.
When session ranges expand, the temptation is to widen the channel until every wick fits. That habit turns a channel into a vague corridor. We keep the parallel from the primary swings and treat outsized wicks as tests, not invitations to redraw.
Width rules we use
- Build the channel from the same swing family that defined the trendline
- Allow one clean rejection outside the parallel before revising width
- If two closes sit outside, reassess whether the channel still describes the move
Volatile Korean index sessions are excellent practice grounds: the structure either holds under noise or it does not. Journal both outcomes.
